The Wine Room at the Taste of Okura is the venue for wine courses and sake tastings. It looks a little like a wine cellar, down there in the basement of the Hotel Okura Amsterdam. Somewhere where fine bottles of wine gently gather age. Where the Riedel crystal gleams alluringly...Our Wine Room is a tasting room for people of taste. Irrespective of whether that's for Japan's national drink, sake, or for some of the world's finest wines. That's because the Wine Room at the Okura is just to your taste....
Tastings
The Wine Room, with its genteel, subdued interior, is a select location for various workshops and tastings. Nothing detracts the eye from the wine dancing in the glass, from the crystal-clear sake. Nothing disturbs the ear, tuned to the words of the Okura's sommeliers.
Master Sommelier
Sommeliers like the master of wine Noël Vanwittenbergh, one of the Netherlands' leading wine connoisseurs. He conducts blind tastings, in darkened glasses under special light. He puts across the basics, but also gives workshops for oenologists - and everyone in between.
Japanese sommelière
The Japanese national drink sake is also on offer. The Japanese sommelière Fukue Homma will guide you during diverse workshops tasting sake. She will tell you all about the origin and the rituals that are associated with drinking sake.
Private and Professional
Regular wine tastings for which individuals can register, are held in the Wine Room at the Okura. It is also possible for groups (of up to18 guests) to hire the Wine Room, whether on a private or professional level, for tastings. Noël Vanwittenbergh and Fukue Homma are ready to lead you in to the secrets of wine and sake. Can you taste it already?
